The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is a member of the popular Bold series & this impressive handset comes with a highly useable touch screen too. Other members of this popular series include the BlackBerry Bold 9700, the BlackBerry Bold 9650 & the BlackBerry Bold 9780. The Bold Touch 9900 is a 3G capable Smartphone which has a slim & well proportioned casing, making it easy to use in a single hand as well as being easy to carry when not in use. This Smartphone comes with amazing touch screen & full keyboard controls, plus it supports the BlackBerry® operating system version 7.0.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 - Design:

It is quite simply beautiful, with its wrap around, brushed, stainless steel bezel and polished Glass Fibre battery cover. Rim have obviously taken a look at the competition and added a few ingredients from the market trends in order to entice some people to the Blackberry Brand, that otherwise before may not have considered it. This is also the slimmest Blackberry ever made helping the Bold Touch 9900 to break away from the traditional opinion that they are often bulky because of their full QWERTY keyboard. There are also a few other firsts for the Bold Touch 9900 one of which one of course is the marriage of a touchscreen to this Track pad and Keyboard combo.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 - Screen:

The Bold Touch 9900 screen is a 2.8inch TFT Capacitive touch screen with 640 by 480 pixels. Although this is not in any way ground breaking technology the pixel density of this screen makes for a very pleasing experience, with its crystal clear with very vibrant colours. Add this to a hand-held that is as fast as Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 and you get what is, an altogether super experience with scrolling being very smooth and effortless between the various screens and menus.

There is however, only one very small niggle with the set-up and that is that the screen is not quite big enough to be used as a full time touch screen, which is occasionally prone to the problem of tapping the wrong icon. As stated before this is a very small gripe as really it is designed to be used in combination with the other interfaces and not as a "stand alone" control. I have no doubt that BlackBerry users and Newbie’s alike will soon get to grips with using all three simultaneously, Rocking around the new OS 7 with ease.

Blackberry OS 7:

This new OS 7 available on the Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 is bound to cause a bit of a stir with owners of older BB devices, as RIM have announced that there will be no Legacy support for this operating system. They can get as cross as they like this is the only phone in the range that is powerful enough to run this version, with its enhanced icons and 60 fps animation.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 - Processor & Memory:

For this the Bold Touch 9900 uses the new Liquid Graphics GPU and 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor which is twice as powerful as any previously seen in a RIM handheld device, which goes to show their commitment to really providing what the modern smartphone user requires. It’s not just the processor that’s been rocked with the RAM being upped to 768MB and the included storage has been doubled from that of its predecessors to a generous 8GB. (Upgradeable to 32 GB)

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 - Web:

The main benefit to this overhaul other than looks is the serious improvement in browsing capability, something that older models have definitely struggled with in the past. RIM claim a 1.6 × improvement on version 6 and apparently tipping it just beyond the pace of Apples iOS. With HTML5 video support and the ability to view full PC pages with ease certainly seems to make this a contender.

Mind you some pages can be a bit of a struggle with the screen being so small but the Bold Touch 9900 was not designed to be a full on web muncher like the Desire HD. However, like Apple, Rim has neglected Flash. Why, when such a large amount of content on the web is flash based, do these giants of tech refuse to see its importance, instead opting for other means to decode flash content for their mobile devices giving a sometimes watered down version of the real content. Maybe we’ll see the upgrade soon as Flash capability is being worked into Blackberries Tablet range.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 - NFC:

One piece of cutting edge technology in the Bold 9900 that has not been forgotten is Near Field Communication, this allows for a whole new mobile experience with the Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 giving the user an opportunity to make payments with their device. Simply hold the phone up to a compatible ticket machine or accept information via fobs or NFC. This technology is going to be the next big thing. RIM has recognised this by also making it easier for developers under the new OS7 to incorporate this into software for the new Blackberry Devices.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 - Communication & Messaging:

Call features such as a hands free speaker option & a vibration alert setting can be used to enhance the users call experience, with a hands free call option or the vibration alert allows the user to be alerted of a new message or incoming call by a subtle movement of the handset itself. User friendly day to day features such as a task list & organiser can be enjoyed on the Bold Touch 9900, plus this Smartphone supports a docs to go feature allowing the user to view popular Microsoft documents on their handset. Communication is made easy in the form of the handsets messaging services which include an online instant message service, a text message service, multimedia picture & video message facility or the user may prefer us communicate with their contacts using email directly from their phone.

BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 - Camera & Video:

The camera for the Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 is not ground breaking. If the camera is the most important thing you look for in a phone then maybe you should consider others on the market. It is however, an improvement on previous models with a 5MP sensor giving it a resolution of 2592 × 1944 pixels. The shutter speed has been greatly improved making it an altogether more responsive device.  A perfect 5mp camera is always going to be better than a poor 10mp camera.

The BlackBerry Touch 9900 also boasts LED Flash, Geotagging, Image Stabilization and Continuous Auto Focus. Video recording is also capable at 720p so all in all it should pack enough punch to keep you snapping and recording.

Conclusion:

For the ones that already worship at the altar of RIM, this is definitely the dream machine that Blackberry lovers will be looking for. Aside from this there might just have been enough juicy improvement that could well tempt users away from other platforms. Seriously, unless you are looking for a glorified games console, this is definitely the bee’s knees. The Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 has more than enough Power and Style to please even the most demanding mobile user without the useless trimming associated with other platforms.
