To enhance mobile connectivity further in Malaysia, CelcomDigi Berhad and U Mobile Sdn Bhd have announced a partnership agreement. With this initiative, both telcos will be sharing a total of 100 Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) sites across Malaysia, with each party committing to 50 sites each.

For the benefit of Malaysian consumers, this collaboration enables both telcos to further expand their 4G LTE coverage and enhance their customers’ connectivity experience without incurring significant operational costs, resulting in greater efficiency. The agreement was signed by Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile and Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi at the Malaysian Pavilion during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, Spain and was witnessed by YB Fahmi Fadzil, Malaysian Minister of Communications.

Regarding the partnership, here's what both Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi and Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile have to say:

“We have a strong legacy in infrastructure sharing, and we look forward to the benefits of this initiative to deliver improved 4G LTE coverage and connectivity for all Malaysians. Our organisations will also benefit from efficient network operations, allowing us to invest in other areas to improve our customers’ digital experiences,” said Datuk Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi.

“U Mobile is always looking to further enhance our customers’ experience hence we believe this partnership is a step in the right direction. By sharing MOCN sites with CelcomDigi, we are able to elevate our customer’s experience efficiently as we are sharing the operational cost, be it deployment, maintenance or energy cost. Apart from that, we will also be optimising spectrum usage and network capacity,” said Wong Heang Tuck, CEO of U Mobile.

In other news, CelcomDigi, U Mobile and ZTE will also collaborate to accelerate 5G-Advanced (5G-A) adoption and application for the masses and enterprises. U Mobile and ZTE also signed an MoU in 5G Advanced technology, autonomous network and 5G adoption for businesses.
