Does ASUS now have a 280Hz TUF Gaming monitor?

For many of us, 144 Hz in a monitor is pretty good. It's really hard to discern a difference in monitors featuring even higher refresh rates so many think there's no need for more. But even having reached a whopping 240Hz, brands don't seem to want to stop. In fact, a new ASUS TUF Gaming monitor has been spotted on Taobao and allegedly boasts an insane 280Hz refresh rate.

The monitor's model name is TUF Gaming VG279QM and it is a 27-inch Full-HD IPS monitor. You normally get to see larger resolutions with 27-inch displays these days so this is a bit unusual. However, we understand that it's possible that the 280Hz is only achievable at 1920x1080p resolution in IPS panels for now. As for other tech specs listed, it also comes with HDR400, 1ms response time, and support for DisplayPort 1.2.

Having said that, the 280Hz claim is a bit suspect. While the product listing on Taobao claims 280Hz, the spec sheet included shows 240Hz. We're not sure if it's a typo on the seller's part, or if it runs on 240Hz natively but can be boosted to 280Hz through a built-in chip or external software. For now, we'll just have to wait for an official announcement from ASUS.
