Could a no-name cheapie really rival Apple's all-conquering iPad or Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2? Of course it can't. But if you're in the market for a seven-inch Android tablet this one might be worth a look, especially if the networks offer it with a hefty subsidy.
Huawei IDEOS S7 Slim Tablet isn't as obscure as you might think
You might not recognise the name, but Huawei makes decent branded phones for customers such as Orange, T-Mobile and also a lot of networking stuff in Malaysia, so it's already quite a big player in portable computing. The same firm is currently promising to build an entire mobile network in the London Underground in time for the Olympics.

Unless Huawei's telling great big fibs, the IDEOS S7 Slim is going to be very cheap. That's Advent Vega territory, hopefully without the compromises inherent in buying an Advent Vega. The IDEOS S7 Slim could get cheaper still if, like the firm's smartphones, it ends up with a mobile phone network's logo slapped on the front.
Huawei IDEOS S7 Slim Tablet - The specs aren't bad
Huawei says the IDEOS S7 will have a seven-inch, 800x480 touchscreen, twin cameras, 720p HD video recording, 3G, Wi-Fi (including 802.11n) and Bluetooth. The operating system will be Android 2.2 aka Froyo, although by the time April's release date approaches Android 3.0 should be available too.
There's an S7 Pro coming too
The slightly bigger Pro is a ten-inch Android device, although nobody's seen one in action yet. We're promised a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, twin cameras, fast 3G and Android 2.3.
