Nokia has long been associated with Symbian as its main operating system, especially for it's feature phones. However, as of this summer in 2013, Nokia will stop shipping Symbian smartphones. The last Symbian smartphone will be Nokia's 808 PureView. Moving on from this, Nokia will only manufacture smartphones that run Microsoft Windows Phone OS.

According to Nokia it takes about 22 months to bring a Symbian device to the market as compared to a little less than a year for a Windows Phone device. This was one of the reasons cited for stopping Symbian phone production. Sales of Symbian phones have also dropped dramatically, from 5.6 million Lumia devices last year to this year's 500000.
