Thanks to Samsung Mobile Malaysia we managed to get some hands-on time with the new Galaxy J1 2016, Galaxy J5 2016 and Galaxy J7 2016. Priced respectively at RM449, RM849 and RM1049, the new Galaxy J 2016 series was launched yesterday and will be available today alongside the already available Galaxy J3 2016 which is priced at RM649.
Here are the tech specs and hands-on pics:
Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 - The entry-level Galaxy J 2016

- 1.3GHz quad-core processor

- 2050 mAh battery
- RM449
Featuring a plastic body, the 4.5-inch Galaxy J1 2016 feels light and comfortable with a reasonably solid build. While the back is plastic, it feels solid and has a shiny metallic looking matte backplate. It looks very much like the Galaxy J3 2016 we've seen earlier.
Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 - The metal frame midranger
- Samsung Galaxy J5 2016
- 1.2GHz octa-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage + up to 128GB microSD

- 13MP rear camera (LED flash) + 5MP (LED flash) front camera
- Supports 4G LTE and Samsung Ultra Data Saving Mode
- 3100 mAh battery
- RM849
Going for a metal frame, the slightly larger Galaxy J5 2016 offers up a more robust build with seamless build. Design is similar to the Samsung Galaxy A 2016 series due to the side curve of the frame but with a slightly larger 5.2-inch display. The back plate is plastic but feels somewhat like ceramic.
Samsung Galaxy J7 2016 - the phablet Galaxy J 2016
- Samsung Galaxy J7 2016
- 1.6GHz octa-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage + up to 128GB microSD
- 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display
- 16MP rear camera (LED flash) + 5MP (LED flash) front camera
- Supports 4G LTE and Samsung Ultra Data Saving Mode
- 3300 mAh battery
- RM1049
Another metal body design, the phablet-sized Galaxy J7 2016 is larger and somewhat heavier. Like the Galaxy J5, it does not stray too far from the Galaxy A 2016-like design but does manage to pack in more features. Unlike the matte back of the Galaxy J5, the Galaxy J7 2016 has a metallic brushed metal back that looks more premium.
