With the announcement of HarmonyOS 2.0 back in last month, many are expecting HUAWEI to bring the in-house operating system (OS) to smartphones. However, it was revealed earlier that the Chinese tech giant will only launch the first smartphone with the HarmonyOS next year. Now, it appears that not only new smartphones can have the OS, but current HUAWEI and HONOR devices will also get to make the switch (well, at least some).

A Chinese tipster has leaked some information regarding the devices that will be able to switch from Android to HarmonyOS. According to the Weibo post, devices with the unreleased 5nm Kirin 9000 chipset will be the first batch to receive the option. With that said, the Mate 40 devices are among the first ones to get the HarmonyOS treatment.

The list followed by the Kirin 990 5G chipset as the second batch, 990 4G (some)/ 985/ 820 as third, 990 4G (some)/ 980/ 820 (some) as fourth, and 810/ 710 (some) being the last. Unfortunately, the Kirin 970 chipset that powers Mate 10 and P20 series is not able to make it into the list. It is said that HUAWEI won't be forcing the users who want to keep Android to make the switch.
