Do you still own a Samsung Galaxy S20 or Galaxy Note 20 series phone? Well, you may want to get a new phone now. Since its introduction in 2020, it has been confirmed that this phone lineup won't be receiving any more software support.
According to the latest security updates page, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series will no longer have any security patches. On top of that, they also will not receive the newest One UI 6.1 update. Currently, they are at One UI 5.1 which is based on Android 13. Of course, this shouldn't be a surprise since phones usually tend to end software support after three years or less.
While there's nothing wrong with keeping the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series, these phones will be vulnerable to future cybersecurity attacks due to the rise of online scams and malware. Moreover, new app versions will also become less stable and not get any new features in the future.
In case you missed it, Samsung officially announced seven years of security updates & OS upgrades for the Galaxy S24 Series during the Galaxy Unpacked launch in January 2024. This was the first time that the company pledged its support for the new lineup in the long run.
