Now, 1 in 5 iPhones are manufactured in India, indicating the US tech giant is making a major shift from its manufacturing in China to India. So, what should you know about it?

According to a Bloomberg report via Times of India, Apple has increased iPhone production in India to $22 billion (~RM97 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 2025, a 60% increase over the previous year. Of that amount, $17.4 billion (~RM77 billion) worth of iPhones were exported, according to India's Technology Minister.

Additionally, this production surge comes after manufacturing disruptions in China due to COVID restrictions. Currently, most iPhone assembly in India is handled by Foxconn's factories in southern India, supported by the Tata Group, which took over the operations of Wistron and Pegatron. Shipments of Indian-made iPhones to the US also increased after former President Donald Trump announced retaliatory tariffs, although the tax exemption on electronic products is still temporary.

Moreover, India now manufactures all iPhone models, including the Pro model, with the support of Indian government subsidies under Narendra Modi's vision to make India a global iPhone manufacturing hub. Apple now controls nearly 8% of the Indian smartphone market, with sales reaching $8 billion (~RM35 billion) in fiscal year 2024.
