Recently it has been shown on social media site X/Twitter that the identity card photos of 17 million Malaysians have been leaked and sold on the dark web arena. So, what should you know about it?

The X @StealthMole account says that the MyKad data of 17 million Malaysians has been leaked and is being sold on the dark web arena through the sample MyKad photos shown. This matter is seen seriously because it shows the names, ID card numbers and home addresses of Malaysians that can be used for various nefarious purposes.

It is claimed that data of 17 million Malaysian exposed is through MyKad photos taken, for now it is the most suitable explanation about how these data were leaked. In Malaysia, there are a number of online platforms that use the eKYC verification system to verify the user's identity, but so far no company has come out to make an announcement about this.

Thankfully, this post have just been proven false. According to a sharing by XavierNaxa on X, DragonForce have confirmed that the leak is false. This is a relief for Malaysians. Hopefully, the local authorities will step up in improving its cybersecurity.
