About 223000 three-ply face masks had recently been seized by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry from a Facebook Seller in Kota Damansara. This is due to the fact that they were selling each mask at RM3.50 a unit, instead of the ceiling price of RM2.00, which was set on 20 March 2020.

It seems that the raid was done thanks to a bunch of information received from the public, stating that a particular seller was selling face masks higher than the controlled price. In violation of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, the suspect is expected to be fined more than RM500000 or a jail term of up to five years if he meets the criteria.

With all that said, the aforementioned ministry urges the public to report any profiteering sales to their hotline at 1-800-886-800 or via their website.
