A 24-year-old Malaysian has been sentenced to 6 months in jail by the Teluk Intan Magistrate Court today for possession of child pornography in a thumb drive. The offender, Liew Ming Hui pleaded guilty and was also fined RM2500 by the court.
As reported by Bernama, the offender, who is a traditional medicine shop worker was charged with possession of child pornography, namely a pen drive containing a whopping 19011 illicit videos and pictures. The pen drive was found at his home at No. 19 Atas, Lorong 1, Jalan Besar, Rancangan Perumahan Awam 2, Langkap in Teluk Intan at about 4.20 pm on 29 May.
Magistrate T. Ashvinii meted out the sentence after hearing the charge by the prosecution framed under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792). Under the provision, the offender could’ve faced imprisonment of up to 5 years or a fine of up to RM10000 or both.
Liew was represented by lawyer Jude Pereira who requested for a stay of execution of the sentence but was dismissed by Magistrate T. Ashvinii. Meanwhile, the prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan.
