The latest Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) report revealed that Malaysia has moved up the global rankings for web threats, placing 30th worldwide. This is attributed to a whopping 27.9 million web threats detected and blocked by the global cybersecurity company in 2024, a 4 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

In a press release, Kaspersky asserted that the alarming data underscores the critical need for enhanced cybersecurity measures to protect individuals and businesses in Malaysia. Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky, stressed that the latest data showed the growing sophistication of cybercriminals and the urgent need for individuals and businesses to continuously enhance safeguards against cyber threats.

Yeo added that approximately RM5 billion in losses were recorded in Malaysia due to cybercrimes from 2020 to 2024. Accordingly, she urged Malaysians to continue to prioritise online safety and take proactive measures as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Digital Ministry highlighted that no single entity could address the cybersecurity challenges that Malaysia faces today as the threats are complex, multifaceted, and evolve at a pace that demands collective action. Hence, the Ministry views public and private partnerships as an important synergy to address cybersecurity concerns.
