4 movies that you should check out in March 2020

2020 has been a slow start for movies. January, as usual, was a pretty uninspiring beginning. Even those that were not bad are just average at best, so far, the one that I really enjoyed was The Gentlemen which wasn't a reboot, a sequel, or a remake. That said, March is shaking things up a bit and there are some movies we are looking forward to. Here are 4 movies to check out in March 2020.

Onward (5 March)

An animated fantasy film by Disney and Pixar, it's a story of two elf brothers living in a modern world where magic barely exists anymore. But that changes when they receive a staff from their late father, prompting them to go on an adventure to seek some magic left and spend one last day with him.

If anyone remembered the trailer, it was an intriguing idea to see mythological creatures living in a modern world. What's more, both Chris Pratt and Tom Holland are voicing the main characters as Ian and Barley Lightfoot. Will their chemistry work in this original IP? Stay tuned as it will be available from 5 March 2020.

Bloodshot (12 March)

Featuring Vin Diesel, he plays as Ray Garrison and becomes "Bloodshot" - a perfect superhuman with incredible healing capabilities thanks to nanotechnology. Also, lots of killing and blood on the floor for trying to get out of the facility that he was training in.

Most people don't know this but Bloodshot is based on a comic by Valiant Comics that first appeared in 1992. There are a total of 6 volumes and a 7th one that is currently in development. Will Bloodshot be another mindless action-packed movie? Maybe, but it looks to be a fun one. It will make its debut in Malaysia on 12 March 2020.

A Quiet Place Part II (19th March)

The story picks up after where the first movie ended, with Emily Blunt reprising her role with Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe as the two children. In this sequel, not only do they have to face the monsters but humans as well in an apocalyptic world.

The film will be helmed by John Krasinski who starred and directed the first movie. A surprise hit, we never thought that we will get to see a sequel but here it is. We can't wait to check out how Krasinski crafted this one as a young director who has come a long way from the popular TV show, The Office. This movie will hit theatres on 19 March 2020.

Mulan (26 March)

Finally, another classic Disney tale remake that is coming to the big screen is Mulan. The core of the story remains the same as the original, Mulan disguises herself as a man to save her father to join the army and fight off against invaders that threaten China. But minus the musical, Mushu, Li Shang and... oh boy.

Whether if it will be a hit or a miss, I personally look forward to the remake because it will be more historically "accurate" with a more realistic take on the story instead of a fantasy one. After all, we already have one which is the 1998 version so we don't need two of them (and we already saw how bad it turned out for the Lion King remake). Nonetheless, fans will still either hate it or love it whichever path it will go. Mulan will appear in Malaysia cinemas on 26 March 2020.
