Since 2024 is ending, we're sure many of our readers are looking for various smartphone promotions. With the new year approaching, it's time for some of us to buy a new phone, right?
To make the search easier, we listed the best flagship and mid-range phones this year for your consideration. However, if you don't have a big budget (such as students or fresh graduates), don't worry because this article is for you. Here are the 5 best phones you can buy under RM1000.
Samsung Galaxy A16 5G
Samsung is no stranger among Malaysians, as the South Korean company offers smartphones in every price category. Regardless of budget, there is sure to be a Samsung phone that suits your needs.

For this list, we chose the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, which is sold at a market price of RM899. This phone has enough specifications for all your needs, such as a screen with a Super AMOLED Full HD+ panel that can display beautiful images, a large 5000mAh battery and a complete camera module (main camera + ultra-wide + macro).
The Galaxy A16 is also offered in a variant that only supports 4G/LTE, available at a more affordable price. However, we recommend getting the 5G variant so you can take advantage of the much faster 5G internet speeds.
realme C75
Are you someone who often accidentally drops things, so you want a durable phone? The RM699 realme C75 might be the phone for you. It has a rugged body with military-grade MIL-STD 810H drop resistance and an IP69 waterproof rating, meaning it won't get damaged even after getting wet or submerged in water.

Inside, the realme C75 has good specs you would expect for a phone in this category. This includes a 90Hz Full HD+ LCD screen, 50MP camera, large 6000mAh battery, 45W fast charging and stereo speakers. One rather noticeable drawback is the lack of an ultra-wide camera, which limits its photography abilities.
Infinix NOTE 40X 5G
Want a cheap phone that looks like an iPhone? When viewed from the back, the Infinix NOTE 40X 5G (RM849) has a camera bump and lens arrangement almost identical to the iPhone. If you want an iPhone lookalike without the price tag, then this could be the phone for you.

Apart from that, it has 12GB of RAM, which is quite a lot for an affordable phone, a 108MP main camera sensor and a large 5000mAh battery. The 18W charging rate is slightly slower than the other phones on this list.
nubia Neo 2 5G
For customers who prioritise gaming performance in an affordable phone, the RM999 nubia Neo 2 5G could be an attractive option. One important feature of this phone is that it has Shoulder Triggers, which you can use as extra buttons for mobile games. This feature is something rarely available in phones in this price range.

Apart from that, the back design also has a very striking gamer aesthetic with the Bionic Mecha design, which makes it look like a robot's face. The screen is also quite interesting, with a 6.72-inch Full HD+ LCD panel and a 120Hz refresh rate for clear visuals and a smooth swiping experience. Moreover, the DTS:X Ultra stereo speakers offer good audio for a phone in this category.
Additionally, the nubia Neo 2 5G uses a Unisoc T820 chipset. It may not offer the smoothest performance, but its large 6000mAh battery and Shoulder Triggers let you enjoy gaming for longer hours. It's also a very affordable phone, so you can get into mobile gaming on a budget.
Honor X7c
The RM699 Honor X7c is another affordable phone that is very durable and won't break if you accidentally (or maybe even intentionally) drop it. Its body has the SGS Premium Performance Certification for Drop and Crush Resistance, which means it has been tested to the extreme to withstand heavy impacts. In addition, it has an IP64 waterproof rating, so you won't have to worry about rain or accidental splashes.

Besides that, the Honor X7c has an LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a refresh rate as high as 120Hz for a smooth scrolling experience similar to more expensive phones. As for internal specifications, it has a Snapdragon 685 chipset (good enough for basic use), a large 6000mAh battery and a 35W fast charging rate.
On the back, it has a main camera with a 50MP sensor and a rather interesting line pattern (for the green colour only). It also offers a 3.5mm audio jack, which is something rare these days. However, it does not have an ultra-wide camera.
