We all thought 5G would never come to Malaysia, at least not in the next 5 years at least. Well, we may just be wrong as 5G pioneer testing will be coming to Malaysia in April starting with Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

So far there has been no specific period set for the test but Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh Deo mentioned that he hopes that within 6 months they would be able to have found some results. During that time, companies that are involved with 5G such as Maxis among others would carry out their respective 5G testings with assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Services (MCMC).

Despite the rumours of 5G technology causing information leakages as well as spying, Gobind mentioned that he could not overlook the fact that the world was moving toward the age of 5G technology. He further mentioned that MCMC is in the process of studying the 5G technology to make sure security is not breached, especially since they will have to be collaborating with the developers of the 5G technology themselves, Huawei. If you aren’t aware, Huawei has been accused of using trying to use their 5G technology to steal information.

In terms of costs, the government mentioned that they are trying to keep costs reasonable and accessible. 5G is said to be 100x faster than our current 4G networks. Do you think Malaysia would be able to achieve a full 5G nation by 2020? For the latest technological advancements in Malaysia, TechNave.com is the place to find out!
