According to data published by Apple, 79% of iPhones worldwide are now running iOS 26. Meanwhile, 14% of iPhones are still using iOS 18, and another 7% are using an older version. So, why is it a big deal?

Users with newer iPhones tend to download the newer updates more
To recap, 86% of iPhones introduced in the past four years use iOS 26. It is not surprising that the latest version of the operating system is used by most newer devices. But an interesting situation can be seen on the iPad where 68% use iPadOS 26, 17% use iPadOS 18, and the remaining 15% use an older version.
Additionally, the development of this latest data makes it easier to produce applications because you only need to focus on devices with the latest operating system. On Android, it is estimated that around 54% of devices use Android 16, followed by Android 15 (11%), Android 14 (10.72%) and older versions are around 24%.
