Every year, Apple announces a new iPhone but never discloses the RAM and battery figure. Well, as speculated before, the company did indeed increase the memory power and battery pack for all iPhone 16 models.
With assistance from @iSWUpdates, the MacRumors team discovered the RAM figure in Apple's latest developer tool Xcode 16 version. While it's nice to have at least 8GB of RAM, it's mainly to boost all the upcoming Apple Intelligence features. This also explains why the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus won't have any updates on that, due to the 6GB of RAM limitation.
On the other hand, MacRumors also reported that the battery life of all iPhone 16 models has at least an hour of video playback. They didn't list down the exact figures but streaming videos can go on for 2-4 hours longer than the predecessors. You can check out the battery life comparison in the table below:
iPhone model | Video playback | Video streaming | Audio playback |
---|---|---|---|
iPhone 16 | 22 hours | 18 hours | 80 hours |
iPhone 15 | 20 hours | 16 hours | 80 hours |
iPhone 16 Plus | 27 hours | 24 hours | 100 hours |
iPhone 15 Plus | 26 hours | 20 hours | 100 hours |
iPhone 16 Pro | 27 hours | 22 hours | 85 hours |
iPhone 15 Pro | 23 hours | 20 hours | 75 hours |
iPhone 16 Pro Max | 33 hours | 29 hours | 105 hours |
iPhone 15 Pro Max | 29 hours | 25 hours | 95 hours |
For context, the battery packs of the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are 3,349mAh, 4,383mAh, 3,274mAh and 4,422mAh, respectively. Since the new ones have improved hours more, we can definitely assume the power juice to be more than that. However, it could also be a slight increase due to the power consumption efficiency of the new A18 and A18 Pro chipsets.
We will give another update on the exact battery packs of the iPhone 16 series in the future, if any. The iPhone 16 series pre-orders will start at 8 PM on 13 September, while the official launch will be available starting on 20 September 2024.
