A UPM student wins the International Eindhoven Semicon Summer School (ESSS) 2025 competition in the Netherlands

Muhammad Zulfakhri Zulkifli, an Electrical & Electronic Engineering student at the Faculty of Engineering, UPM, has won the Eindhoven Semicon Summer School (ESSS) 2025 semiconductor competition in the Netherlands.

 

One for the country

He was the only representative from UPM and Malaysia to participate in the competition, which was also attended by 80 participants from 20 universities from around the world.

"I am honoured to be able to represent UPM and Malaysia on this international stage through the official invitation of the Dutch Embassy to FK UPM."

Besides that, his group project titled “Towards Integrated Broadband Photonic Systems: Conceptualising a Handheld Real-Time Spectroscopy Instrument”, successfully beat 75 other participants.

Together with teammates from the Netherlands, Italy, Taiwan, and Romania, he managed to take home €600 (~RM3,000) and a participation certificate.

Moreover, the program organised by the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute (EHCI), also involved international experts from semiconductor giants such as ASML, NXP, IBM, Synopsys, TSMC and others.
