Previously, we reported how Netflix is losing subscribers and may be introducing a cheaper, ad-supported subscription plan to combat the loss of customers. Well, it looks like the new subscription plan model may be coming sooner than expected as an alleged internal memo leak revealed that Netflix will be pushing its release to as early as October this year.

As reported by The New York Times, a recent internal note to employees by Netflix said that the company’s executives are aiming to introduce the ad-supported plan in the latest three months of 2022. Furthermore, the internal memo also allegedly said that the company will begin crackdown on password sharing during the same time period.

Previously, Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings said that the company will only introduce the ad-tier option in the ‘next year or two’. However, this alleged leak suggests that Netflix may have changed its tunes and want to entice new customers to subscribe and previous customers who left to return.

On 20 April 2022, the company announcedits Q1 2022 financial report and for the first time in a decade, the company is losing subscribers. Well, looking at the numbers, losing money has got to be one of the main reasons as to why Netflix is expediting this new ad-supported subscription.
