A flat earth member died from crashing in his own homemade rocket

From time to time, we would read news about how the Flat Earth society tried to prove that our mother Earth is flat with hilarious theories (and how they played themselves at the end). Among one of them was "Mad" Mike Hughes who unfortunately died from a crash after his homebuilt rocket encountered a problem.

For whatever the reason was, nobody really knows why the rocket failed. According to sources, "the chute for his steam-powered rocket detached shortly after launch" and he crashed into the desert nearby Bastow, California. During the launch, the scene was supposed to be filmed for Homemade Astronauts, a Science Channel series about amateur rocket makers.

"Mad" Mike Hughes was 64 years old and has always tried to prove that the Earth is flat (which is not) by launching himself up to space. His first attempt was back in 2014 which took him up to 1374 feet, then in 2018 at 1875 feet. However, he had to get his budget through crowdfunding (from his fellow Flat Earth friends) and spent around $18,000 (~RM75,889) and didn't really have a lot of safety measures.

It is truly sad to see one's life lost like that, especially thinking the Earth is flat. The moral of the story? Pay attention to in science class and don't be stupid to take such risk to prove something that was already proven by science.
