Yup, you read that right. A new mobile game by Electronic Arts (EA), The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth has been announced and it's in development right now. Working alongside Middle-earth Enterprises, the mobile game will be a free-to-play Role Playing Game (RPG) for the fans and newcomers.

In the press releaseThe Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will focus heavily on storytelling and the RPG gameplay will be turn-based combat. There will also be a wide roster of characters that you get to play in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series, as well as having a "deep collection system". It's said that the stories will be taken from the world of Tolkien.

This is not the first time that the two companies have worked together. It is also noted that this is EA's first Lord of the Rings game since The Lord of the Rings: Conquest which came out in 2009. The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth is expected to enter limited regional beta testing this summer.

Although it will be free-to-play, we also expect some microtransaction features to appear in the mobile game. Let's just hope that EA won't try to milk it with ridiculous in-game item purchases, as the company got into trouble plenty of times of doing so. Star Wars Battlefront II is a fine example of it.

But what do you think about it? Are you looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
