Yesterday, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to launch the upcoming National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) in Kuala Lumpur on 12 December 2024. The purpose of the office is to assist the government in formulating policies in line with AI development.
During the GDS Data Centre Supply Chain Ecosystem Summit event, he also added more details about NAIO. One of the important aspects is bringing benefits and how they can take advantage of the balance and risks of AI. The government is also getting input from the entire industry regarding the needs of this industry (AI).
According to the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the establishment of NAIO would enhance the country's AI capabilities by fostering innovation, promoting cross-sectoral collaboration and supporting the integration of AI into government, industry and community frameworks. MDEC will also look into how they can facilitate the process if investors are interested in investing.
On top of that, Gobind also said Johor Bahru is ready to become a data centre hub based on the efforts made by the state government to provide basic facilities and support to the industry. To make sure there is sufficient local skilled manpower for the industry, a Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) will be launched on 3 November by the state government.
