A new Phone Call Dialer default setting for iOS users is in beta testing

Whenever our phone signal strength is weak, there is a good chance that we may opt for WhatsApp calls to make a phone call. Well, looks like the WhatsApp team is going to make it an optional default feature, which is now available in the TestFlight app.

With the upcoming Phone Call Dialer feature, this will allow WhatsApp users to manually enter a phone umber directly within the dialling page. Furthermore, it is able to verify whether the number is registered on WhatsApp or associated with a verified business number.

Since iOS 18.2, Apple has rolled out an update to let users choose their preferred default apps for various tasks. With this, WhatsApp is currently testing the default calling app there, which is visible to some beta testers. WABetainfo also reported that this feature will come to iPadOS, but there is no word about having this for Android. Nonetheless, we are confident that it will come to Android devices at some point.

It may seem a bit redundant for WhatsApp to have this feature, but it makes sense in countries where the app is popular, such as Malaysia. WhatsApp on iOS and iPadOS should be receiving this new update in a matter of days, so stay tuned for that.
