While technology continues to advance exponentially, so are scammers looking for new ways to trick people. In this news, it looks like it just happened from the West on an Apple user by a "tech support" scam method that's not heard often. However, it appears that this tactic has been going on for years.

So how did it happened? Apparently, this incident occurred on a Mac device with a rather convincing Apple Support message from the scammer. The message reads and warns the user that there is a "System Security At Risk" and even provided a fake tech support number at the bottom. The user would be given two options - either call the fake line and pay to "fix" the security or download a diagnostic tool that is also from the scammer.

An example of a scam message

Even if the user goes for the latter, the scamming can still work via a screen-sharing app and try to convince the user to transfer the money for "safety measure". The scammer will also assure the user that it's just temporary and "part" of the Apple free customer service program. In the end, the victim from the sources of this news lost $2000 which is roughly around ~RM8259.

Should encounter any pop-up message about winning a prize (#sus) or encountering a "security issue" with a random number provided, we strongly advise you to ignore it. In fact, you should just call Apple support in your respective region just to be safe. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
