A survey showed 54% of Malaysians WFH watch YouTube during online video meetings

These days, it seems that we have pretty much gone back to the working world outside but with a new mask fashion accessory. That said, it must have been a relief when meeting up with people in person when compared with online video meetings. Also, turned out that many Malaysians are fed up with it too for the past year. 

A survey study was published by Uniphore revealed the challenges faced by each country in online video meetings. For the past 18 months, the survey showed that 74% of respondents felt engaged, followed by 68% feeling a meaningful connection. They noted that this applies in a wide area of fields such as education, training, sales meetings or counselling session.

However, there are also many Malaysians finding themselves distracted or simply finding video calls boring. 54% of them admitted watching YouTube or streaming services while having an online conference, whereas 52% read social media/online news. Some also would just go to the bathroom (40%) or do online shopping (31%) in the middle of an online meeting. 

There are many factors on why Malaysians dislike video calls increasingly throughout the months:

  • 41% of them couldn't tell if others were engaged or not
  • 30% of them would prefer multitasking during video calls
  • 29% of them are camera-shy 
  • 29% of them don't like to get ready for it 
  • 29% of them couldn't get converse their message effectively
