According to a study by Stanford University, it assesses how AI’s tendency to be patronising (sycophancy) can have negative effects on users. That said, what should you know about it?

AI will still try to justify your actions, even if it’s wrong

For your information, in the context of AI, condoning is when it overly supports and validates user behaviour even when it is wrong or harmful. A total of 11 popular AI models, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and DeepSeek, were used in this study.

Additionally, the study found that AI confirmed user behavior 49% more often than humans. For questions related to dangerous or illegal actions, AI supported it 47% of the time. What's interesting about this study is that the popular subreddit r/AmITheAsshole was used as a basis. Even if the question asked by the Reddit user was clearly wrong, the AI would still find justification to approve the action.

Besides that, there is no denying that AI is a useful tool, but like any other tool on earth, if used incorrectly, it can lead to harm.
