It looks like 2020 is not a year in which AMD would be resting on its laurels. If reports from Taiwan are to be believed, AMD CEO Lisu Su will take to the stage at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 to reveal the company's next CPU microarchitecture - Zen 3.
The news broke via a Twitter post, which claims that AMD will reveal the new generation of AMD EPYC, Ryzen Threadripper, and Ryzen platforms at the annual tech show. If AMD follows the release timings we see in recent years, the first one to be released would be new Ryzen APUs based on Zen 2. The new Ryzen Threadripper 4000 and Ryzen 4000 desktop CPUs would come much later in the year, assuming it's ready to be launch in 2020.
During an interview with Anandtech, AMD CTO Mark Papermaster also mentioned that the AMD's goal is to beat the industry's annual 7% instructions per cycle (IPC) growth with each subsequent generation of Zen cores. It should be noted that a new generation is expected to be released every 12-18 months. We're not sure if this is enough time for AMD to give each generation fanciful features, but AMD customers would still have the incentive to upgrade if the improvements are enticing enough.
Considering how much value the Zen 2-based AMD Ryzen 3000 series is, would you want to upgrade to Zen 3 if it releases this year? Do let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for further updates on this.
