Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy visit from AMD Inc. (Advanced Micro Devices) led by AMD CEO Lisa Su. In the meeting, they were discussing the direction of AMD in supporting the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) in Malaysia.
In his Facebook post, he said AMD welcomes the NSS policy as it focuses on the national interest, especially in existing and guaranteeing supply chains from various countries. Additionally, Anwar also mentioned that Malaysia is optimistic about strategic partnerships with companies like AMD, which can help the country towards a better direction for the long term.
AMD will also seek to establish a hub for advanced semiconductor packaging and designs, and will focus on its operations in Penang and Cyberjaya. The tech giant has been in Malaysia since 1972, and that has played an important role in the semiconductor sector, starting with its first facility in Penang. The company now has two Global Shared Service facilities in Penang and Cyberjaya.
To date, AMD has employed more than 800 employees in Malaysia. This move should also offer more job opportunities for Malaysians who are interested in working in the semiconductor sector. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
