The ASUS ZenFone Selfie offers a 13MP PixelMaster front camera complete with dual tone LED flash. While it packs in other features like a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and 5.5-inch full HD display the main highlight of the ZenFone Selfie is it's selfie taking capabilities. As such we took it for a spin against the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with its 5MP front camera in a selfie comparison shootout. Read on to find out the results.

Normal Selfie - Selfies with just Auto Mode

Without a doubt, pitting the Samsung Galaxy Note 5's 5MP front camera against the 13MP front camera of the ASUS ZenFone Selfie is an unfair proposition especially when it comes to the normal auto mode. A selfie taken in Auto mode clearly shows the amount of resolution available for the ZenFone Selfie as there are more details, better colour reproduction and a clearer view of everything in the shot. That being said, the Note 5 managed to get a faster autofocus than the ZenFone Selfie so you can take a selfie faster with the Note 5, but if you want a more detailed selfie shot then the ZenFone Selfie is the selfie specialist of the two.

Beautification / Beauty shots - On-the-fly photo editing

Beautification is the feature that gets used a lot in selfies as everyone wants to look more beautiful without having to know any photo editing. Again, the selfie specialist ZenFone Selfie is the one with better features as it has more options to choose from. Featuring a scale of 0 to 10 as opposed to 0 to 8 the ZenFone Selfie offered a bit more flexibility when it came to beautification shots and instead of just four options on the Note 5, the ZenFone Selfie had 5. Granted, neither one was able to make me beautiful since I am already quite fair with no facial scars, but if you're looking for more options to beautify your selfie portraits then the ZenFone Selfie is the one for you. Both were equally fast for this category despite the Galaxy Note 5 being the more technically powerful of the two.

Selfie Panorama / Wide Selfie shots - For those Group Selfie shots

For this category the ASUS ZenFone Selfie again takes the top spot mainly because I felt that it allowed you to take a wider angle selfie panorama or wide selfie shot than the Galaxy Note 5. Compared to the Galaxy Note 5 which only takes 3 shots to make a wide selfie, the ZenFone Selfie takes 7 shots with better resolution for each shot. This has its cons though as it also makes more chances for error. I found the Galaxy Note 5 wide selfie shot to be much easier to use with less chance of missplaced shoulders due to a shaky grip and it allowed me to take a wide selfie shot in landscape mode while the ZenFone Selfie only allows selfie panorama shots in portrait mode.

Low-light selfies - Finding light in the darkness

Both the Galaxy Note 5 and ZenFone Selfie did very well in low light but the ZenFone Selfie clearly offers better resolution despite the 3MP PixelMaster low-light mode we used to take the shot. Taken in the early morning when the sun still hadn't come up, both smartphones did very well, offering a draw when it comes to low-light selfies with the ZenFone Selfie offering just a bit more detail.

Conclusion - More features vs Easy-use

Overall, the ASUS ZenFone Selfie is clearly the better cameraphone for the selfie shot user but thanks to a robust processor and interface, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is much easier to use. This isn't to say that the Galaxy Note 5 is bad at taking selfies, as it takes very good selfies with faster autofocus, but if you're looking for a smartphone to take selfie shots with, then the ZenFone Selfie offers more selfie related features and better resolution. While the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 does pack in the dual shot (which you have to download), a selfie camera feature that the ASUS ZenFone Selfie does not offer, the ZenFone Selfie offers a lot more other PixelMaster Camera features which can be used with the front camera. This includes Manual mode and Super Resolution mode and other PixelMaster features like Low-Light mode and Time Rewind offering you more options for your selfie taking needs.
