Acer Iconia W3 Officially Announced

After all the leaks, teaser videos and unintentional Amazon listings, it was a bit hard to say that the official Acer Iconia W3 announcement was much of a surprise. Regardless, it has been officially announced at Computex 2013 and it has confirmed many of the leaked information. This includes the $379 (RM1169) price tag and the fact that it is running a full Windows 8 operating system much like Microsoft's own Surface Pro. Confirmed tech specs for the Acer Iconia W3 include:

  • 1.8GHz Atom Z2760 processor
  • 8.1-inch display (1280 x 800)
  • 32GB / 64GB Storage + 32GB microSD
  • 2MP rear camera + 2MP front camera
  • 802.11b/g/n + micro-HDMI + micro-USB
  • 540g

On top of Windows 8, the tablet also packs in Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 so you get something which can do more than just download apps or browse the Internet as mentioned in Acer's recent teaser trailer. First impressions of the Iconia W3 is the rather plastic build quality that usually comes with most Acer products and a screen with rather poor viewing angles but very smooth operation of Windows 8. The tablet also comes with a keyboard dock with chiclet keys the same size as Acer 13.1-inch notebook computers (that rattles if you type too hard). The Acer Iconia W3 should be available for the aforementioned price in June (probably end of the month) 2013. Hopefully, Acer fixes all of this little nitpicks before the official launch.
