Recently In Taipei, Taiwan, Acer just unveiled its first education tablet - the Chromebook Tab 10 (D651N) running on Chrome OS. Designed for educational purpose in mind, Acer wants the customers to utilize this in K-12 classrooms to expand and enhance the students' learning ability with the speed, simplicity and security of Chrome OS. Below is the tech-specs of the tablet.

  • OP1 Processor, dual-core Cortex-A72 and quad-core Cortex-A53 processors\
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 32GB internal storage
  • Measures 172.2 (W) x 238.2 (D) x 9.98 (H) mm, weighs 550g
  • 5MP rear camera, 2MP front HD webcam
  • 9.7-inch QXGA IPS touch display ( 2048 x 1536 resolution)
  • Features microSD card reader, Expeditions AR app, Wacom EMR stylus
  • Supports 2x2 MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1
  • Battery lasts up to 9 hours

Being lightweight and compact enough for students to carry it around, the highlight of the tablet is Expeditions AR, which is Google’s AR technology that maps the classroom and places 3D objects in it for students to study, making subjects such as biology, geography and astronomy easier to understand visually. Moreover, it comes with a Wacom EMR stylus, enabling the students to have fun with interactive apps, sketch, take notes and share ideas with classmates and teachers. The stylus can be embedded in the chassis dock for secure storage, it doesn’t require a battery and is resistant to accidental drops.

On top of that, IT admins can also manage the Chromebook Tab 10 on their campus, making updates, configuring apps, as well as manage extensions and policies with the Chrome Education license. Since the tablet also supports multiple user sign-in, it can be shared throughout the school labs, allowing quick access for each student's information, apps, projects, Gmail and others when they log onto their accounts. Even if a device is lost, stolen or damaged, students won’t lose their information thanks to the Google Drive's protection.

As for the price and availability, it seems that it will launch in North America first in April with the starting price of $329 (~RM1271). That's pretty affordable for a tablet, no word for whether if it's coming to Malaysia, though, but we shall see. Stay tuned for more Acer news at TechNave.com.
