Acer to extend its VR offering by supporting the Windows Holographic Platform in Q1 2017

Just over the weekend, Acer has announced that the company will offer VR Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs) which is capable of producing mixed reality through the use of Windows 10 Creators Update next year. With the recent joint collaboration with Starbreeze, Acer is now able to provide a comprehensive VR offering for all kinds of customers, ranging from top-of-the-line, cinema-grade HMDs, extending to accessible headsets enabled by the Windows Holographic Platform, and VR-Ready PCs and platforms to power them all.

The new headsets are expected to ship in the first quarter and the starting prices at $299 (around RM1256). Meanwhile, the new HMD will work with affordable laptops and PCs and is designed to enable progressive computing experiences and accelerate the adoption of new and intuitive ways to interact with the world.

With a built-in camera for mixed reality applications, the lightweight HMDs supports high resolutions of up to 1440 x 1440 for each eye. Users are able to move around freely while using the device, by utilizing the built-in sensors which are capable of inside-out and six-degrees of freedom (DoF) positional tracking .
