According to Bleeping Computer, Microsoft is investigating an issue of failure and data corruption on SSDs and HDDs after installing the Windows 11 security update KB5063878 (August 2025). So, what should you know about it?
Phison might have caused this issue
While Microsoft was unable to replicate the issue in their internal testing, user reports indicate that it occurs primarily when continuous data writes reach file sizes of 50GB on storage that is over 60% full.
Among the affected storage models are the Corsair Force MP600, SanDisk Extreme Pro, Kioxia Exceria Plus G4, as well as drives with Phison and InnoGrit controllers.
Moreover, Microsoft is now working with storage manufacturers to identify the cause, including with Phison, which acknowledged the industry impact of the update.
What’s the solution?
As a precautionary measure, you are currently advised to avoid writing large files at once or extracting large amounts of data at once until this issue is resolved.
