Previously, we shared how Indonesia has officially banned the Apple iPhone 16 Series in the country. Well, now another tech giant is facing a similar treatment, this time being Alphabet Inc.’s Google and its Google Pixel smartphones.
This is because Google, just like Apple, had failed to meet the country’s domestic content requirements. As reported by Bloomberg, Indonesia Ministry of Industry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief asserted in a press briefing yesterday that it’s illegal to trade Google Pixels smartphones in the Republic. This is despite approximately 22,000 units of Pixel smartphones already entering Indonesia this year.
Besides that, the Indonesian Government has also threatened to take action against online and physical shops caught selling Google Pixels. Not only that, but they also threatened to deactivate the devices’ IMEI identifying numbers so the devices couldn’t be used with local telecommunications providers.
