During this Covid-19 pandemic, have you gone online and bought things that claimed to help you stay away from the virus? Not only are some businesses doing false advertisements, but the prices of surgical masks and hand sanitizers have also gone up to a new high as sellers take advantage of this situation. Today, a product from China claims that it can kill the coronavirus.

China’s biggest home appliance company Gree recently launched a new air purifier that is said to be able to kill the virus. The purifier has also been tested at hospitals in Wuhan, which is the city where the virus outbreak originated. If you’re curious about how it works, the machine actually ionizes gas and creates particles to remove harmful allergens. However, whether or not it can kill a coronavirus still remains a question when it comes to what the air purifier can actually do.

The air purifier has been shown killing and deactivating airborne microorganisms, but those only include bacteria instead of viruses. Still, Gree doesn’t give up their claim that their product is able to get rid of the coronavirus. Whether this is true or not, it is still important for us to follow basic precautions to keep ourselves safe during this time. If you’re interested, the air purifier is being sold at the price of 1700 USD (~RM7503).
