AirAsia has been named one of the safest low-cost airlines in the world for 2024 by a study by AirlineRatings.com. The findings by the world’s only safety and product rating agency found that AirAsia Group is among the top 20 safest low-cost airlines out of 385 airlines it monitors.
Specifically, AirAsia Group, which includes AirAsia, AirAsia X, AirAsia Thailand, AirAsia Philippines and AirAsia Ind was listed as the 12th safest low-cost airline in the world for 2024. The top 20 rankings are as below:

- easyJet
- Ryanair
- Wizz Air
- Norwegian
- Frontier
- Vueling
- Vietjet
- Southwest
- Volaris
- flydubai
- AirAsia Group
- Cebu Pacific
- Sun Country
- Spirit
- Westjet
- JetBlue
- Air Arabia
- Indigo
- Eurowings
Factors used to decide the rankings include incident records over the past two years, crash records over the past five years, results of audits conducted by the governing body of aviation, The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), EU banned lists and fleet age. Previously in May 2023, AirlineRatings.com also awarded AirAsia Group as the top low-cost carrier in Asia.
In a press release, Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group said that safety is always the number one priority for the airline and the company is thrilled to once again be acknowledged as being amongst the best in the world for operational integrity.
