Popular online lodging and tourism activities app Airbnb has announced that it is banning users from holding parties and events at homes on its platform. In a statement yesterday, Airbnb said that the ban, which was temporary previously due to the Covid-19 pandemic has now been made permanent after becoming overwhelmingly popular with hosts.

Asserting that the ban has become ‘much more than a public health measure’ since its implementation in August 2020, users must now book ‘specialty and traditional hospitality venues’ on the app if they wish to hold parties and events. Since the ban was introduced on the app, over 6600 guests had been suspended for breaking the rule.

In the same statement, Airbnb also said that it is removing the limit of the number of people its listings are allowed to accommodate at one time. The platform further elaborated that removing the cap was meant to allow those hosts to responsibly utilise the space in their homes while still complying with its ban on disruptive parties.
