Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has announced that its ticket purchasing system will go fully cashless starting 1 January 2025. These include Klang Valley, northern, southern and east coast sectors.
In a Facebook post, KTMB lauded the cashless ticketing system as easier, faster and has more payment options. Among the payment methods accepted include MyDebit, Visa, Mastercard, Touch ’n Go, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay and Komuter Link. KTM Wallet via KITS is also accepted, though do note that they’re only applicable for KTM Komuter services.
Bernama quoted KTMB Grup CEO Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin as saying that the company is currently in a transition phase until the end of 2024 to raise awareness among the public, especially the elderly and disabled, about the shift to cashless payments. During this transition period, ticket counters will continue to accept cash transactions. However, once the initiative is implemented, all transactions will be cashless.
