Today, Netflix has announced that all of its subscription plans (Student, Basic, Standard, and Premium) prices have increased. It is effective starting today (14 November) and will be implemented for Astro customers as well.
While Netflix Malaysia didn't disclose the amount, we had to take a visit to the website to check out the prices. Both the Student and Basic plans have a small jump of RM1.90, while the Standard plan is now RM49.90 per month (formerly RM45 per month). Those who are subscribed to the Premium plan get the big one - RM62.90 per month as opposed to RM55 per month.
As for Astro customers with Netflix bundled in their subscription packs, they will not see the price change take effect until 1 March 2025. Until then, the current subscription prices for these bundles will remain in place. However, new Netflix add-on sign-ups from Astro are affected by the change.
For customers who subscribed to Netflix via Astro before November 14, 2024, the price change will take effect from their billing cycle starting on or after 21 November 2024. Netflix said affected customers will receive notification via email before the new pricing takes effect to ensure they are fully informed.
The last time that Netflix changed its price was for the Basic plan. It was initially RM35 per month but dropped to RM28 per month last year. This certainly hurts most Netflix users as the economy is in tough times in Malaysia.
