All videos on Facebook are reels now

Facebook is making a big change to how videos appear on its platform. Starting in early July 2025, all newly uploaded videos—regardless of length or format—will automatically be published as Reels. This update applies to both personal profiles and Facebook Pages, and will roll out globally in stages.

Previously, users had to choose between sharing a regular video post or a Reel. Now, that choice is going away. The “Video” tab on profiles and Pages will be renamed to “Reels,” and will show all video content, including short clips, long-form videos, and even Facebook Live replays.

What’s changing?

Here are the key updates coming to Facebook’s video format:

  • Unified format: Every new video uploaded on Facebook will be treated as a Reel, making the process of sharing simpler.
  • Creative tools for all videos: Whether short or long, all videos will have access to Reel tools such as music, text, stickers, effects, and voiceovers.
  • Updated Reels length: Facebook is removing the 90-second time limit, allowing users to upload much longer content within the Reels format.
  • Privacy settings stay the same: You can still choose who sees your video when you post it. Facebook will prompt you to confirm your audience before sharing.
  • Discovery and recommendations: Facebook’s algorithm will continue recommending Reels based on user interests. Long-form videos will not be deprioritised.

Why it matters

This update is part of Meta’s push to unify the video experience across its platforms, following similar changes made on Instagram. It also shows Facebook’s continued focus on short-form, mobile-friendly content, aiming to keep pace with platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

By moving all videos into the Reels format, Facebook is streamlining its platform and encouraging more creative engagement. For content creators and casual users alike, this change means more flexibility and fewer steps when sharing videos.

Final thoughts

Whether you enjoy short clips or prefer longer content, Facebook's shift to Reels is designed to simplify the video experience. The update removes extra decisions, gives all users access to creative tools, and makes discovery more consistent.
