In a coordinated enforcement move, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), alongside the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), confiscated 3837 units of unapproved communication equipment as part of Operation Taring Bravo 3. The seized tech — which includes wireless gaming consoles, smart devices, tablets, and other gadgets — carries an estimated market value of RM500,000.
Cracking Down on Uncertified Sales
The targeted company is under investigation for allegedly selling these communication devices online without MCMC’s mandatory technical certification. The bust underscores the government's ongoing crackdown on grey-market electronics that may bypass safety and compliance standards.

The operation is conducted under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which carries penalties of up to RM300,000, three years’ imprisonment, or both, for offenders found guilty of selling non-compliant equipment.
Public Vigilance Requested
MCMC stresses the importance of public cooperation: anyone with relevant information is urged to report through official MCMC complaint channels or directly to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). Uncertified devices — often sold online — pose risks to consumer safety and national tech standards. Any device not certified through the proper channels could jeopardise users’ data, functionality, and safety.
We also recommend that users carefully purchase devices from online or physical stores, especially if they are too good to be affordable. However, piracy has a long history in the Malaysian market, so there's still a lot of work to do. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
