AmBank expands Apple Pay support to Debit Cards in Malaysia

Today, AmBank has officially expanded Apple Pay support to include its debit cards after years. To refresh your memory, Apple Pay on AmBank was previously restricted to credit cards only. But this move finally allows AmBank users to link their debit cards to Apple devices, including the iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac and iPad.

From Credit-Only to Full Card Support

As mentioned earlier, when Apple Pay first launched in Malaysia, AmBank users could only link credit cards to the service. With this update, AmBank customers can now add their Visa debit cards to Apple Pay, enabling contactless payments directly from their iPhone or Apple Watch using funds from their bank account.

With Apple Pay enabled on debit cards, users can make payments in-store, online, and within apps using supported Apple devices. Users can simply tap their device at contactless terminals or authenticate payments online using Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode verification. Authentication is required for every payment, ensuring that only the authorised user can complete transactions.

Additionally, card numbers are not stored on the device or shared with merchants, reducing the risk of fraud. Users can also remotely disable payments via Apple’s Find My feature if their device is lost.

Easy Setup via AmOnline and Apple Wallet

Adding a debit card to Apple Pay is a straightforward process. Users can log in to the AmOnline app, select their card, and choose to add it to Apple Wallet before completing verification. Once set up, the card is ready for immediate use across all supported Apple devices, providing a seamless onboarding experience for new users.

To encourage adoption, AmBank is also offering promotional incentives. Users who pay using Apple Pay with their debit cards can receive a RM30 cashback reward for a limited time.
