Let's suppose you are an avid running fan or a competitive athlete. Then, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 might have caught your attention. It’s deservedly so because of its specs and features that cater to fitness enthusiasts, outdoor adventurers, and individuals who need a durable tracking device for tough environments.
Building on the success of its predecessors, the T-Rex 3 brings new features and improvements while maintaining its hallmark toughness and reliability. At RM1099, is this device worth the investment? This is our verdict.
A simple and clean design
We love the steel chassis and neat finish
Design-wise, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 retains the rugged, outdoorsy aesthetic for which the T-Rex line is known for. It features a durable polycarbonate body with a metal bezel, giving it a solid, sturdy feel. The watch is MIL-STD-810G certified for military-grade toughness, ensuring it can withstand extreme temperatures, humidity, shock, and more.
In addition, it's also water-resistant up to 10 ATMs, making it ideal for swimming and water-based activities. The 1.43-inch AMOLED display is sharp and vibrant, offering excellent visibility even under direct sunlight. It also has a scratch-resistant layer, protecting it from minor damage when used in rough environments. To test this claim, we dropped the watch from almost 1.5 metres multiple times and it survived unscathed. So, that should give you a clear reassurance of the watch’s durability.

Super durable and scratch free, even when dropped
Moreover, Amazfit smartwatches are known for their long-lasting battery life, and the T-Rex 3 doesn't disappoint. A single charge on its 500 mAh battery could last us almost 11 days even with heavy GPS use and continuous heart rate monitoring. That makes it perfect for multi-day treks or expeditions.
As you can expect, the T-Rex 3 runs on Amazfit's Zepp OS, which is lightweight and responsive. It allows users to receive smartphone notifications, control music playback, and even answer calls via Bluetooth. The watch also supports third-party apps, expanding its functionality beyond health and fitness tracking.
Highly accurate sensor to maximise your user experience
Display screen is visible even under bright sunlight
It is also compatible with both Android and iOS devices, syncing data seamlessly through the Zepp App. The UI is intuitive and easy to navigate, even for first-time users. Software-wise, it features an array of fitness and health tracking features. It also includes GPS (with dual-band positioning), heart rate monitoring, SpO2 tracking, and sleep analysis, among other metrics.
Furthermore, another standout feature is the BioTracker PPG 4.0 sensor, which provides more accurate heart rate data during intense workouts. Amazfit also includes over 150 sports modes, covering everything from running and cycling to more niche activities like rowing and hiking. With the ExerSense AI-powered system, the watch can automatically recognise certain sports and start tracking without manual input.
The UI is pretty easy to navigate and easy on the eyes
The highly accurate sensor helps you monitor sleep and running performance
For outdoor enthusiasts, the dual-band GPS is a valuable addition, providing precise tracking during hikes, trail runs, or cycling. The T-Rex 3 also supports offline maps and route navigation, which is a handy feature for adventurers who go off the beaten path.
For all of its great tech specs, features and modes, the software patches for this device leave a lot to be desired. For instance, one of our workouts didn’t sync from the watch to the app even when the app said it was “Successfully synced”. However, the glaring flaw we noticed for this watch is the inability for us to transfer our data from the Zepp app to Strava. So, we had to enter the data from the watch manually on Strava. Unless it is patched, we feel this could be a major deterrence for its targetted audience - competitive runners.
The software bug means your workout might not carry over to the app
We had to manually key in the data on Strava
Fits like a glove
Overall, it's still a great watch
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is an excellent choice for those who prioritise durability, outdoor features, and long battery life. Its rugged design, extensive fitness tracking modes, and impressive GPS capabilities make it a solid companion for adventurers and fitness enthusiasts. While it may have software bugs, we believe Amazfit will patch it soon.
