America lifted bans on some drones, but most popular ones are still banned

Recently, the FCC published a list of temporary exemptions until the end of 2026 for several foreign-made drone models and components. That said, what should you know about it?

 

Some drones are making a comeback

For your information, Drones made by Parrot, Teledyne FLIR, Neros Technologies, Wingtra, Auterion, ModalAI, Zepher Flight Labs, and AeroVironment can now be re-imported. Drone components made by Nvidia, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, ModalAI, and ARK Electronics are also allowed. DJI and Autel drones, however, still cannot be imported.

Moreover, foreign-made drones are feared to pose a national security risk, especially those made in China. Many see the FCC's move as an attempt to crack down on DJI, which holds 80% of the U.S. drone market, while simultaneously developing domestic drone capabilities. American farmers also voiced concerns that last year's abrupt ban would hurt operations because there were not enough domestically made alternatives.
