The tariff war between China and the United States has eased slightly after both countries agreed to reduce tariffs by 115% for 90 days. But the technology war continues with the US Commerce Department warning companies around the world not to use artificial intelligence (AI) chips made by Huawei. So, what should you know about it?

For your information, the use of chips such as the Huawei Ascend 910C would violate technology export controls imposed by the United States. Although the chips are manufactured by Huawei in China, US-owned technology is believed to be used without authorization. Therefore, users of these chips could subject the company to penalties from the United States.

With the Ascend 910 series, Huawei is looking to compete with NVIDIA in the AI chip market. The CloudMatrix 384 system using the Ascend 910C, for example, has higher performance than the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system . Huawei has reportedly started offering the CloudMatrix 384 to customers in China who are looking for an alternative to NVIDIA and AMD systems. China has imposed restrictions on the import of chips with US technology to ensure that it will not become a leader in AI technology.

Additionally, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang himself sees Huawei as a competitor because they have the capabilities and support of the Chinese government. He also urged the United States to be more serious about producing local AI experts, as more than half of the world's best AI researchers are from China.
