An audit report recently found that the MyDigital ID Project spent RM28.13 million without approval from the related committee. Previously, RM80 million had been budgeted to MIMOS Berhad for development funds. That said, what should you know about it?
A shocking reveal
For your information, the Auditor General's report tabled in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday revealed that overall, there were several weaknesses in the expenditure and internal control aspects during the initial implementation of the MyDigital ID project. RM28.13 million had been spent without committee approval involving 11 sub-scopes of the project that exceeded or did not have allocations.
At the same time, the project governance structure did not function as intended, as there was no official presentation on expenditure approval or implementation status in monitoring meetings.
The audit also found that RM14.09 million of development funds were used to pay for staff salaries, resource costs and medical facilities. This is contrary to the 12th Malaysia Plan guidelines, which do not allow salaries or emoluments and office equipment to be financed through development funds.
You didn't know about the MyDigital ID project?
The MyDigital ID project was implemented in March 2024, with the MyJPJ application being the first to support it. It is also used for online identity verification and integrated into all government services.
Furthermore, it is used for prepaid SIM card registration to prevent widespread online fraud. Long-term plans include it being used to vote online in the future so you don't have to return to your registered voting address.
