During this pandemic, MySejahtera app is one of the most-used apps on our mobile devices right now. But some places require us to use another QR scanner app for registration purpose. If you have this app called Barcode Scanner, you ought to delete it now.

According to sources, a few patrons of Malwarebytes were experiencing sudden intrusive ads opening on their web browsers for no reason in last December. None of them seems to recall installing any recent apps, except one that has updated Barcode Scanner. Eventually, Malwarebytes went to investigate and detected it as a malware which Google removed from the Play Store.

Initially, Barcode Scanner's purpose was just to scan for barcodes and QR codes and it has been around for a few years. It's only recently when the app got a new update that made this happen. Deleting the app doesn't mean the malware or displayed ads have been removed, unless if you have a malware scanner or remove the app manually.

As aforementioned, the app has already been removed from the Google Play Store. You should also delete the app if you have it. Stay safe and stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
