Ananda Krishnan, founder of Maxis and Astro has passed away at the age of 86

Yesterday on 28 November 2024, Ananda Krishnan Tatparanandam, formerly the chairman of Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, as well as the founder of Maxis Berhad and Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, passed away at the age of 86. He also owned a large stake in an oilfield service provider company, Bumi Armada Bhd, through Objektiv Bersatu Sdn Bhd.

A brief history of the late Ananda Krishnan, he has contributed to Malaysia's development in telecommunications. His huge influence and philanthropy had an impact on society and the business world as well. Usaha Tegas was the first to announce the sad news of the chairman's passing. The company also requested the public to respect the privacy of the deceased family.

He was also listed as the sixth-richest Malaysian by Forbes in April, with a net worth of US$4.8 billion (~RM21.3 billion). Both Maxis and Astro have extended their condolences to Mr Ananda Krishnan's family and reflect on his achievements and guidance over the years that helped the companies to what they are today.
