Ever thought of using your Android device like a PC? Samsung is well-known for its DeX system, but other Android devices don't have access to a simple desktop mode. At least, not until the next Android version update.

Since 2022, Google has been revamping the desktop mode first introduced in Android 10. It's believed that Google will finally roll out the new and enhanced desktop mode with Android 15 later this year. According to Android Authority, it will feature "better windowing capabilities". This refers to the appearance of apps as windows on the screen, similar to what you'd see on a desktop PC.

The source also included a video showcasing how the current iteration of desktop mode works in Android 14. As you can see, you can create multiple windows, resize them, make them go fullscreen, and arrange them in split-screen format. However, Android desktop mode still doesn't support features you'd take for granted on a desktop computer. We're talking about features like keyboard shortcuts, drag-and-drop support (for some apps), a desktop launcher, and more.

For now, it'll be interesting to see how Google implements the updated desktop mode later this year. Maybe some of us can finally ditch laptops and work exclusively through smartphones. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
